The Reminiscenes Of Terra Firma

The phrase “The Reminiscences of Terra Firma” derives from the latin words that that holds the meaning of “to recall a prior picture or thought of solid ground”, it is closely related to ceramic that originated from the ground and try to perceive the feeling when observing the artworks that are showcased in this exhibition. The artworks in this exhibition are the finest artworks from each artists past. The exhibiting artists are lecturers from 2 UiTM branches that offers a higher education in the ceramic field. Hence, the reason why we chose the theme, The Reminiscences of Terra Firma. 

The History Of ITM , Perak Branch 

On January 1st, 1985, the MARA Institute of Technology (ITM), Perak branch was officially established by YAB Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib, the Chief Minister of Perak. The campus was one of the first eighth out of twelve ITM campuses established in the whole country.

 

The Sri Manjung Campus was successfully established with the help of the Perak government. In the relation to that, the Perak government with the help of Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNP) has leased several shop houses and teres houses to ITM as a temporary campus at Bandar Baru Seri Manjung that is located 86 km west from Ipoh City.

At the beginning of its establishment, the campus consisted of 6 units of two-storey shop house buildings and was added from time to time to become 15 units as administrative offices, lecture rooms, student dormitories, library, surau, dining hall and store.

 

In addition, a total of 31 units of single storey terrace houses have been rented as dormitories as student’s dormitories. The first intake of 200 students was in January 1985 who followed the Diploma in Accounting, Diploma in Public Administration, Diploma in Business Studies and Diploma in Secretarial Science.

 

In an effort to improve facilities and be suitable for higher-educational learning institution, the Perak State Government has allocated an area of ​​285.5 acres in Bandar Baru, Seri Iskandar as the site of the Perak Branch ITM permanent Campus. The preliminary works of phase 1 Seri Iskandar Campus which consists of the Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Surveying (FSPU) building and hostel building was officiated by YAB, Chief  Minister of Perak Tan Sri Dato 'Seri Diraja (Dr) Haji Ramli bin Ngah Talib on April 3, 1995. On January 1st, 1997 the Seri Iskandar campus came into use to accommodate a total of 786 students from FSPU.

In 1996, the Ceramics Department at the Mara Institute of Technology (ITM) was established and based in Bandar Seri Manjung as a temporary campus at that time. In addition, the number of students who were successfully accepted for the ceramic course was 17 people, 7 male students and 10 female students. The Ceramics Department was led by Mr. Khalil Bin Sulaiman who is also a lecturer in the Ceramics Department. Students were provided with accommodation facilities which are shop houses rented by the Perak State Government through the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNP) to provide comfort for students.
