In those early years as a student, my work was functional items such as a set of tablewares referring to Japanese cuisine serving meals. Primarily, I worked with various tenmoku glazes, and fortunately, some of the glazes came out with a slight crystalline glaze in a reduction atmosphere firing. Later in 2004, I did a series of tests on underglaze colours along with my main interests of patterns, motifs and colours from the exquisite songket and labu sayong repeated pattern, which represent the multidisciplinary intersection between textiles and ceramics. Passionate towards colours also brings me to the Nerikomi technique, known as agateware technique, which involves stacking coloured clay and slicing through the cross-section to reveal the intricate and delicate pattern. This artwork required experimentation of commercial stain colours and the structured pattern design and form, which ultimately helped me move in a more suited to my evolving aesthetics.
